이스라엘 백성들의 여정을 다룬 민수기 33장

민수기 33장은 이스라엘 백성이 이집트를 떠나 광야를 지나면서 겪은 일련의 여정을 기록한 장입니다. 이스라엘 자손의 리스트가 나열되고 여행한 곳들 그리고 하나님의 명령으로 정착된 곳 등을 일목요연하게 상기시킨 것 같습니다. 기록 차원이라고 해두는 게 좋겠죠.

 

이스라엘인의 여정

 

 

1 These are the stages of the people of Israel, when they went out of the land of Egypt by their companies under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. 2 Moses wrote down their startion places, stage by stage , by command of the Lord, and these are their stages according to their starting places. 3 They set out from Rameses in the first month , on the fifteenth day of the first month. On the day after the Passover, the people of Israel went out triumphantly in the sight of all the Egyptians, 4 while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom the Lord had struck down among them. On their gods also the Lord executed judgements.

 

 

이스라엘 백성이 이집트에서 출발하여 모세와 아론의 지도 아래 가나안을 향해서 떠났습니다. 하나님의 인도 대로 어떻게 여정을 떠났는지 상세히 나왔는데요. 먼저 이스라엘 백성은 이집트를 떠나 첫째 달 15일에 출발하였습니다. 이들은 이집트를 떠난 바로 다음 날부터 여정을 시작했으며 그날을 유월절이라고 하였습니다. 또한, 하나님이 이집트 사람들을 심판했다고 합니다.

 

 

5절에서는 이스라엘인들이 람세스를 떠나 숙곳에 야영을 합니다. 숙곳은 수고함의 땅이라는 곳인데요. 이곳에서 이동한 후 에담에 도착합니다. 이후 홍해를 건너 마라에 도착하지만 마라에서 쓴 물을 마셔 백성들은 불평하였고 하나님은 단 물로 바꿔 주십니다. 다음으로 엘림으로 이동하고 그곳에서 12개의 샘물과 70그루의 종려나무를 발견합니다.

 

 

5 So the people of Israel set out from Rameses and camped at Succoth. 6 And they set out from Succoth and camped at Etham, which is on the edge of the wilderness. 7 And they set out from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, which is east of Baal-zephon, and they camped before Migdol. 8 And they set out from before Hahiroth and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and they went a three days' journey in the wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah. 9 And they set out from Marah and came to Elim' at Elim there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there.

 

이스라엘 백성은 엘림을 떠나 신 광야로 이동하고 그곳에서 하나님의 백성으로서 훈련을 받습니다. 하지만 신 광야에선 먹거리의 부족으로 백성들이 불평이 생겼고 그러자 하나님은 만나를 내리셔서 그들에게 먹였습니다. 하지만 계속되는 이동에 백성들은 불평불만이 극에 달했고 하나님의 음식마저 투정하면서 육식을 달라고 합니다.  드빌과 알루쉬를 지나며 하나님은 메추리 떼들을 내려서 이들에게 단백질을 보충해 줬습니다. 이후 백성들은 하세론을 지나 리드마로 이동합니다. 이들은 리드마에서  다음 캠프인 기벳핫으로 이동하고 이곳에서 신앙적 훈련을 받습니다. 그리고 르호보와 엘렛을 지나면서 여전히 반복되는 불평과 시험을 반복하며 여정이 지속됩니다.

 

 

10 And they set our from Elim ad camped by the Red Sea. 11 And they set out from the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of Sin. 12 And they set out from the wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah. 13 And they set out from Dophkah and camped at Alush. 14 And they set out from Alush and camped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink. 15 And they set out from Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai. 16 And they set out from the wilderness of Sinai and camped at Kibroth-hattaavah. 17 And they set out from Kibroth-hattaavah and camped at Hazeroth. 18 And they set out from Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah. 19 And they set out from Rithmah and camped at Rimmon-perez. 20 And they set out from Rimmon-perez and camped at Libnah. 21 And they set out from Rissah and camped at Rissah. 22 And they set out from Rissah and camped at Kehelathah. 23 And they set out from Kehelathan and camped at MOunt Shepher. 24 And they set out from Mount Shepher and camped at Haradah. 25 And they set out from Haradah and camped at Makheloth 26 And they set out from Makheloth and camped at Tahath. 27 And they set out from Tahath and camped at Terah. 28 And they set out from Terah and camped at Mithkah. 29 And they set out from Mithkah and camped at Hashmonah. 30 And they set out from Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth. 31 And they set out from Moseroth and camped at Bene-jaakan. 32 And they set out from Bene-jaakan and camped at Horhaggidgad. 33 And they set out from Hor-hag-gidgal and camped at Jotnathah. 34 And they set out from Jotnathah and camped at Abronah. 35 And they set out from Abronah and camped at Ezion-geber 36 And they set out from Ezion-geber and camped in the wilderness of Zin(that is, Kadesh). 37 And they set out from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, on the edge of the land of Edom.

 

 제사장 엘르아살과 여호수아의 역할

38 And Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor at the command of the Lord and died there. in the fortieth year after the people of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month. 39 And Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.

 

 

  40 And the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negeb in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the people of Israel.

 

  41 And they set out from MOunt Hor and camped at Zalmonah. 42 And they set out from Zalmonah and camped at Punon 43 And they set out from PUnon and camped at Oboth. 44 And they set out from Oboth and camped at Lye-abarim, in the territory of Moab. 45 And they set out from Lyim and and camped at Dibon-gad. 46 And they set out from Dibon-gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim. 47 And they set out from Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. 48 And they set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped in the Plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho; 49 they camped by the Jordan from Beth-jeshi-moth as far as Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.

 

모세는 제사장 엘르아살과 여호수아에게 가나안 땅을 정복하고 이스라엘 백성에서 땅을 분배하는 책임을 맡기기로 합니다. 엘르아살은 제사장으로서 신앙적인 지도 역할을 하며 여호수아는 군사적 지도자로서 이끄는 역할을 하게 됩니다. 그리고 하나님은 이스라엘 백성에게 가나안 땅의 경계를 설정하도록 명령하십니다. 이 땅은 이스라엘 지파별로 나누어 소유할 것입니다. 그렇게 가나안 땅의 경계는 남, 북, 동, 서쪽의 각 지역을 지정하고, 그 경계 내에서 이스라엘 각 지파가 정착할 땅을 차지하게 됩니다. 이 경계를 기준으로 자신들의 땅을 분배받게 됩니다.

 가나안 땅 정복 과정

하나님은 모세에게 이스라엘 백성이 가나안 땅에 들어갈 준비를 하도록 명령하십니다. 그들은 가나안 땅을 정복하고, 그 땅에서 가나안 주민들을 모두 쫓아내야 한다고 합니다. 왜 멀쩡히 잘 살고 있는 사람들을 내쫓고 지들이 산다는 것인지 참 별스럽네요. 아무튼, 이스라엘 백성은 하나님의 명령대로 가나안 땅에 들어갈 준비를 하고 정복하고 거주할 때까지 지켜야 할 규례를 전달하는 부분입니다.

 

50 And the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 51 "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you pass over the Jorddan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land fro before you and destroy al ltheir figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places. 53 And you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it. 54 You shall inherit the land by lot according to your clans. To a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance. Wherever the lot falls for anyone, that shall be his. According to the tribes of your fathers you shall inherit. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell. 56 And I will do to you as I thought to do to them."

 

그러면서 가나안 땅을 정복하고 주민들을 쫓아내지 않으면 엄중한 벌을 내릴 거라고 하는데요. 가나안 주민들을 쫓아내지 않으면 그들 대신 가나안 주민들이 이스라엘 백성에게 덫이 될 것이라고 경고합니다. 하나님의 명령을 어기고 가나안 주민을 그대로 두면, 그들이 이스라엘 백성에게 불안과 어려움을 초래하고, 결국 이스라엘 백성은 하나님의 심판을 받게 될 것이라는 경고를 하는데 알고 그러는 것인지 이기적이라 그런 것인지 알다가도 모르겠습니다.
