레위기 16장 1장~19절 속죄의 날과 아사셀의 정체에 관하여

속죄의 날은 이스라엘인이 현재까지도 매년 엄숙하게 지키는 행사로 10월 1일경에 해당한다고 합니다. 유대교에서는 이를 욤 키푸르라고 하는데요. 무슨 잘못을 얼마나 했다고 그렇게 속죄의 날까지 정하는지는 모르겠으나 이 날은 모든 죄를 용서하고 사함을 받는 날이라고 합니다. 

 

 

 

속죄의 날 준수해야 할 규칙?

 

1. The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the Lord and died,

2. and the Lord said to Moses, "Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.

3. But in this way Aaron shall come into the offering and a ram for a burnt offering.

4. He shall put on the holy linen coat and shall have the linen undergarment on his body, and he shall tie the linen sash round his waist, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water and then put them on.

5. And he shall take from the congregation of the people of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

 

창조주는 모세에게 말합니다. 아론의 두 아들이 부정탄 행동을 해서 죽었듯이 아론도 그리 되지 않기 위해 조심해야 할 주의 사항을 알려주는 것 같습니다. 그러니까 모세에게 엄중 단속을 한 것이겠죠. 모세야 너의 동생도 죽지 않으려면 이래야 한다 식이겠죠.

 

 

 

홀리플레이스에 들어올 때 무슨 자비의 자리가 있는가 봐요? 함부로 들어오지도 못하게 하면서 구름 속에서 나타날 거라고 하는데요. 마술사인가요? 대체 무슨 능력이 있으신 건지 신묘하기 짝이 없네요.  아무튼, 함부로 들어오지 못하게 하면서 들어오게 되면 일련의 규칙을 알려 주십니다.  심신을 정갈하게 하고 속죄물, 번제물로 바칠 숫양을 준비하라고 하네요.

 

 

아사셀의 정체?

 

 

6. "Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering for himself and shall make atonement for himself and for his house.

7. Then he shall take the two goats and set them before the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

8. And Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other lot for Azazel.

9. And Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the Lord and use it as a sin offering, 

10. but the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel make atonement over it, that it may be sent away into the wilderness to Azazel.

 

 

 

황소를 속죄 제물로 바치는데 자신과 자신의 가정을 위해 바치라고 합니다. 그리고 두 마리의 염소를 바치는 데 하나는 창조주를 위해 바치고 하나는 아사셀을 위해 바치라고 하는데 아자젤인지 아사셀은 대체 뭔가 해서 찾아봤습니다. 항간에는 하사셀이 사탄염소라는 말도 있던데요. 속죄의 날에 하는 의식 중 하나로 희생양이 등장하는데요.

 

 

한 마리는 산 채로 창조주에게 바치고 한마리는 희생양에게 죄의 무게를 짊어지어 광야에 보내지는 것 같습니다. 백성의 죄를 짊어지고 광야로 보내진다고 하는데요. 그렇기에 죗값을 대신 치르는 어둠의 양, 혹은 천사로 간주되는 건 아닌가 합니다. 아사셀을 영어로 scaoegoat 희생양이라고 하는 것으로 봐선 사탄과는 거리가 있어 보이긴 합니다. 

 

물론 어떤 곳에서는 아사셀에게 보내지는 염소가 죄악을 운반하는 트럭 역할을 한다고도 말하기도 합니다. 그러니까 염소에게 죄악을 실어서 죄악의 근원인 마귀에게 보내진다고 하는데요. 갑자기 창조주가 아사셀을 거론한 것이 뜬금포다 싶긴 합니다. 

 

 

 

11. " Aaron shall present the bull as a sin offering for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. He shall kill the bull as a sin offering for himself.

12. And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and he shall bring it inside the veil.

13. and put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is over the testimony, so that he does not die. 

14. And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the mercy seat on the east side, and in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times

 

 

 

 이런 저런 행위

 

 

15. "Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it over the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat.

16. Thus he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel and because of their trangressions, all their sins. And so he shall do for the tent of meeting, which dwells with them in the midst of thei uncleannesses. with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.

 

 

 

17. No one may be in the tent of meeting from the time he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place until he comes out and has made atonement for himself and for his house and for all the assembly of Israel.

18. Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar all round.

19. And he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it and consecrate it from the uncleannesses of the people of Israel.

 

그렇게 황소를 바치고, 염소도 나누어서 바치는 가운데  염소의 피를 베일에 뿌리고 7번을 어쩌고저쩌고 하는 내용이 나오는데요. 왜 이런 의식을 하는지 좀 이해가 안 갑니다. 굳이 7번을 하는 이유는 무엇이며 베일에 뿌리고, 향로를 피우고 동쪽에 어쩌고저쩌고 하는데요. 성경에는 이런 미신 따위 안 하고 기도만 하고 상당히 세련된 종교라고 생각했는데 한국의 토속 신앙과 다를 게 없어 보이네요. 한국의 제사 문화나 굿 같은 거 하는 것과 똑같게 느껴지고 결국 그런 것들도 다 이런 고대 의식에서 파생되었나 봅니다.
